The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has relaxed the age limit for admissions into tertiary institutions, allowing candidates who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025, to apply, provided they meet the institution’s standards. This change aims to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates and to prevent unfair advantages for those admitted later in the 2024/2025 admission period.

The JAMB spokesman noted that the relaxation of the age limit will not affect academic standards or individual institutions’ admission policies. This decision aims to enhance access to tertiary education and provide younger students with opportunities to pursue their academic goals. Institutions are required to submit lists of candidates who will turn 16 between January 1 and August 31, 2025, and are eligible for admission within a week.
