At least five out of over 125 defendants collapsed shortly after proceedings began in a Federal High Court in Abuja. The defendants, mostly teenagers, were arraigned on terrorism charges related to their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano State, where they allegedly chanted anti-government slogans and carried foreign flags.

Defense lawyer Marshall Abubakar reported that the defendants were charged in two batches of 76 and 49. Shortly after the first batch was called, several defendants collapsed while mounting the dock, causing confusion and leading the judge to suspend proceedings.

Abubakar attributed the defendants’ collapse to hunger and ill-health, stating that many are around 12 years old. He emphasized that the young defendants have been held in police custody for weeks without food or adequate medical care, which has led to their current condition and the resulting incidents in court.
