This development affected him severely as he left school and worked in the farmland. He earned low wages and wondered why despite his hard work and dedication, he did not have his own property. Therefore he turned to grassroots mobilizing and in 1952, he joined the Community Service Organization (C.S.O.), a Latino civil rights organization, as a mobilizer.
