ISDB, GPE and partners support 100 000 out-of-school children in Nigeria

  • EAA Foundation, IsDB, ISFD, GPE, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and Kaduna State Ministry of Education collaborate to benefit 100,000 out-of-school children in Kaduna, including girls and children with disabilities.
  • The Reaching Out-of-School Children in Kaduna State project (ROOSC) employs a multi-tiered approach to address critical barriers to education in the region.
  • Nigeria faces obstacles like economic challenges, instability, insecurity, and inequality, leading to barriers such as insufficient funding, poor infrastructure, lack of trained teachers, and inadequate access to education.
  • Data from the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics in 2020 shows an estimated 535,353 out-of-school children in the state, ranking Kaduna among the states with the largest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
  • The ROOSC project aims to increase enrollment and retention rates, reduce poverty, and contribute to socio-economic development.

Objectives over four years include:

  1. Improving access and retention
  2. Enhancing the quality of teaching and learning
  3. Improving learning environments
  4. Strengthening education management

The project, supported by the Qatar Fund For Development, will focus on components like inclusion, community mobilization, teacher training, quality assurance, flexible learning opportunities, psychosocial support, child protection, and provision of teaching materials.
