Simone Biles’ parents, Ronald and Nellie Biles, were a significant presence at the Paris Olympics, supporting Simone and celebrating their opportunity to watch her compete in person. Simone Biles has frequently expressed her gratitude for their support, crediting them with playing a crucial role in her success.

Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, has often credited her success to her adoptive parents, Ronald and Nellie Biles. At age 6, Biles and her sister Adria were adopted by Ronald, their biological grandfather, after spending time in foster care due to their biological mother’s struggles with addiction and incarceration. Biles has shared that while she doesn’t remember much about foster care, she felt the loss of being separated from her biological mother. She recalls the joy she felt during visits from her grandfather, Ronald Biles, while in foster care.

Ronald and Nellie Biles met in San Antonio, where Ronald was an Air Force serviceman and single father, and Nellie was a college student. They married on January 16, 1977, and had two sons together. Simone Biles celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2017 with a heartfelt Instagram post.

After moving to Texas to live with their grandparents, Simone Biles and her sister were reunited with their family, while their older siblings stayed in Ohio with their father’s sister. During a 2017 appearance on “Dancing with the Stars,” Simone recalled her grandparents, Ronald and Nellie Biles, inviting her to call them Mom and Dad, marking a significant shift in her life.

Simone described her adoption as a pivotal moment that set her on a better path, offering her a “second shot at life.” Her parents enrolled her in gymnastics classes at age 6, which laid the foundation for her Olympic career. Nellie Biles recalled that Simone was always committed to practice, even when ill. The Biles family now owns the gym where Simone trains.

In the July/August 2021 issue of Health Magazine, Simone Biles expressed pride in her parents for owning the World Champions Centre in Spring, Texas, where she trained for the Tokyo Olympics. She emphasized the importance of representation, noting how their presence as Black gym owners serves as an inspiration for young athletes.

Simone also shared her initial nervousness about introducing her future husband, NFL star Jonathan Owens, to her parents. Despite her worries, the meeting went well, and Owens became well-integrated into her family.

In January 2023, Simone Biles shared with People that her mother played a key role in helping her plan her wedding to Jonathan Owens. Biles valued her mom’s advice and support, viewing her and her dad as models of love and stability. Biles and Owens married in a small courthouse ceremony in April 2023, followed by a larger destination wedding in Mexico.

Regarding Biles’ decision to withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Netflix docuseries “Simone Biles Rising” reveals that her mother, Nellie Biles, supported her decision, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being over competition. Nellie reassured Simone, urging her to prioritize her health and well-being.
