Tragic End: US-based Nigerian Doctor Commits Suicide Over Child Support Ruling

Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a 36-year-old Nigerian-born cardiologist based in the United States, has reportedly taken his own life after a U.S. court ordered him to pay $15,000 in monthly child support to his ex-wife.

The Anambra State native had been embroiled in a prolonged and contentious divorce and custody battle before the ruling was delivered. Reports indicate that he had already spent thousands of dollars in legal fees and also lost his medical license as a result of the case.

Nigerian-American Clayton Udo, who confirmed the incident on X (formerly Twitter), condemned the court’s decision and highlighted the challenges African men face in the U.S. legal system. “The abuse of African men in the USA must come to an end. This tragic incident highlights systemic issues that disproportionately affect African men,” Udo wrote.
