HIV: Prevention from mother-to- child transmission services declining in Nigeria-UNAIDS

< 1 min read

UNAIDS reports that the coverage of prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV services in Nigeria remains low, reaching only 30% of eligible women. Nigeria is listed among the countries with the slowest decline in new HIV infections among children. In 2020, Nigeria recorded an estimated 21,000 new child HIV infections, the highest globally, accounting for 14% of the global estimate. Despite funding not being a major challenge for the PMTCT program in Nigeria, significant gaps in service delivery persist.
