The U.S. Department of Education has set an August 30 deadline for borrowers to opt out of student loan relief by contacting their servicers. This relief aims to forgive federal student loan debt for borrowers who have entered repayment on at least one loan. Borrowers with federal subsidized and unsubsidized loans are considered to have entered repayment after their grace period ends, typically six months after leaving school. PLUS loan borrowers enter repayment when their loans are fully disbursed.
