Joeshannon Kimble, a dedicated educator with 25 years of experience, noticed that middle school students in her district were struggling academically. In May 2022, after teaching a fifth-grade class, she decided to follow those students into sixth grade to accelerate their progress. Kimble’s approach involved focusing on individual needs and targeting specific skills that students were missing, some dating back to third grade. She eliminated the traditional homeroom setup to teach all core subjects in her classroom, allowing her to implement effective interventions without lowering academic expectations. As a result of her efforts, Repton Junior High became the only school in Conecuh County to achieve 100 points in academic growth on Alabama’s school report card by the end of the year.
