Newsletter from School in Hamilton County sparks Outrage Among Special Needs Advocates

Advocates for individuals with special needs are outraged by a newsletter from Ivy Skillern Elementary in Chattanooga, which stated, “They are here to learn academics, not behavioral skills,” in reference to the school’s focus on academic excellence over behavioral development. Tricia Rafeedie, founder of the Chattanooga & North Georgia Autism & Special Needs Community, called the statement “unacceptable” and announced plans to file a complaint with the state, expressing concern for parents of students with special needs.
