A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has ordered the remand of Naomi Silekunola, former wife of the Ooni of Ife, alongside Oriyomi Hamzat, CEO of Agidigbo FM, and Abdullahi Fasasi, Principal of Islamic High School, at the Agodi Correctional Centre.

The trio were arraigned on Tuesday over their alleged involvement in last week’s tragic stampede at a Christmas funfair held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The incident claimed the lives of 35 children and left six others injured.

Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi directed their remand at Agodi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions. They are facing a four-count charge, with the prosecution citing violations of Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The heavily guarded court session drew widespread public attention, as the suspects were escorted to and from the premises under heavy security.

The tragic event has sparked widespread reactions, with many calling for a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
