Some Nigerians took to social media on Monday to celebrate the release of Segun Olowookere, who was sentenced to death in 2014 by the Osun High Court for stealing chickens, following his release from prison.
PUNCH Metro reports that Olowookere was 17 years old when he was arrested and 21 years old when he was sentenced to death. His trial lasted from February 11, 2013, to December 17, 2014.
Olowookere’s release from prison came after the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, announced his pardon on Thursday in response to public outrage.
