Trump Signs Executive Order to Expand School Choice Programs

Former President Donald Trump signed a sweeping executive order aimed at expanding school choice programs by prioritizing and freeing up federal funding.

The order directs the Education Department to prioritize school choice initiatives through discretionary grants and issue guidance to states on how federal funds can support K-12 educational choice programs within 60 days.

Titled “Expanding Educational Freedom and Opportunity for Families,” the order also impacts other federal agencies:
🔹 The Department of Health and Human Services must clarify how block grants can be used for faith-based and private schools within 90 days.
🔹 The Defense Secretary is tasked with developing a plan for military families to use Pentagon funds for school choice.
🔹 The Interior Secretary must create a plan allowing students in Bureau of Indian Education schools to benefit from school choice funding.
