Tragedy in South Korea: Elementary School Teacher Allegedly Stabs Pupil to Death

A tragic incident in Daejeon, South Korea, has left the nation in shock after an elementary school teacher allegedly stabbed a young pupil to death during after-school care on Monday.
Authorities reported that the female suspect, in her 40s, is currently receiving hospital treatment for self-inflicted wounds. She had recently returned to work after a period of leave for health reasons and revealed to police that she had been receiving treatment for depression since 2018, according to Yuk Jong-myeong, chief of Daejeon’s western district police station.
The victim, a first-grade student, was reported missing at 5:15 PM local time. A search was conducted throughout the school and nearby areas before her grandmother discovered her in an audio-visual room at 5:50 PM. She was rushed to the hospital but was tragically pronounced dead.
In response to the incident, South Korea’s acting president has called for a thorough review of school safety standards to prevent such tragedies in the future.
