New York sues U.S. Education Department over $600M in cuts as feds slash $400M more for Columbia University

A federal lawsuit filed Thursday challenged the U.S. Education Department’s (U.S.E.D.) abrupt cancellation of about $600 million in grants. New York joined California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Wisconsin to sue the department for allegedly terminating those long-term grant contracts—earmarked for training and recruiting teachers—without warning.
