Student Injured in Monroe Middle School Cooking Class Fire
A middle school student and a teacher were injured in a fire that broke out during a cooking class at Monroe Middle School in Middlesex County on Wednesday morning.
Authorities say the fire started around 10:25 a.m. when the student’s clothing caught fire after coming into contact with an open flame. The teacher attempted to smother the flames while another student quickly used a fire extinguisher to help put out the fire.
The injured student was airlifted to a burn center for treatment, while the teacher sustained minor injuries. The school was temporarily evacuated, but classes later resumed.
