A deeply troubling case has emerged in Asaba, Delta State, where a 54‑year‑old man, Edward Odega, has confessed to sexually abusing his three daughters over a period of seven years.

Odega admitted that he began violating his eldest daughter when she was just 12 years old, and later continued the abuse with his other two daughters, now aged 13 and 15. The eldest daughter is currently 24.

The crime came to light after one of the children bravely spoke up during a school outreach program led by CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor of the Ogborikoko Division.

This disclosure prompted swift police action, leading to Odega’s arrest. According to police spokesperson Bright Edafe, the three children are now receiving medical care at the hospital.

This case is a stark reminder of the urgent need to protect children from abuse and exploitation. Every child has the right to dignity and protection from sexual abuse. It explicitly prohibits sexual relations with children and affirms that children must be safeguarded from all forms of maltreatment.
