Six Children Rescued from Traffickers in Benue, Three Women Arrested

The Benue State Police Command has successfully rescued six children, aged between seven and nine, who were reportedly being trafficked to Anambra State. According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, the children were allegedly taken from Divine Peace and Grace Orphanage in Jos, Plateau State.

Edet disclosed that three female suspects, Mrs. Monica Okonkwo (57), Nkiru Nwosu (55), and Oyechele Francisca (57), all from Umude Oka Dunukofia in Anambra State, were arrested while transporting the children along the Orokam–Enugu Road. The rescued children are now under protective care as investigations continue at the State CID.

Violates their right to protection from trafficking, as guaranteed under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, child trafficking poses severe risks to the physical, psychological, and social well-being of children.

The recent rescue of six children in Benue underscores the urgent need for stronger measures to prevent exploitation and safeguard vulnerable children across the country.
