In a shocking incident at Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir in Narayanpur village, Surajpur district, Chhattisgarh, two female teachers allegedly subjected a four-year-old student to inhumane punishment for not completing his homework. The child was reportedly stripped, tied with a rope, and hung from a tree inside the school premises, an act that lasted for hours.

The horrifying incident, captured on video by a nearby resident, went viral on social media, prompting immediate condemnation from the public and authorities.

Details of the Incident

The nursery class teacher, Kajal Sahu, reportedly became angry when she found the child had not completed his assignment. She expelled the student from class and carried out the punishment along with another teacher, Anuradha Dewangan. The four-year-old was left dangling from a tree, crying and pleading to be released.

Family members expressed deep anger at the school, alleging gross negligence and cruelty. Santosh Kumar Sahu, a relative of the child, demanded strict action against the teachers and the school administration.

Immediate Response from Authorities

Following the viral video, the Block Education Officer (BEO) DS Lakra and District Education Officer (DEO) Ajay Mishra launched an on-site investigation. The education department dispatched cluster in-charge Manoj Yadav, who condemned the teachers’ actions as “completely wrong” and confirmed that a detailed report had been submitted to senior officials.

The school management admitted fault, with the administrator issuing a public apology and describing the incident as a “serious lapse.” One of the teachers reportedly said it was her first mistake and that it was unintentional.

Public Reaction and Social Media Uproar

The incident has sparked widespread anger among parents, activists, and the public. Many have demanded strict action not only against the teachers involved but also against the school for allowing such an act to occur on its premises.

Parents and child rights activists argue that schools should be safe spaces where children learn and grow without fear of abuse or humiliation.

Call to Action

  • Immediate Investigation: Authorities must ensure a thorough investigation and hold the responsible individuals accountable.
  • School Safety Policies: Schools should implement strict child protection policies and ensure teachers are trained in positive discipline techniques.
  • Community Vigilance: Parents and community members must report abusive practices promptly to education authorities.
  • Government Oversight: Education departments should monitor schools regularly to prevent similar incidents and ensure compliance with child safety regulations.

Conclusion

This incident is a gross violation of a child’s rights, including the right to safety, dignity, and protection from abuse, as guaranteed under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Every child has the right to learn in a safe and nurturing environment, free from fear, humiliation, or harm. Schools must be held accountable for safeguarding children and ensuring that such inhumane acts never happen again.
