NSCDC Rescues 28 in Lagos Baby Factory Raid, Arrests Two Suspects in Badagry

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have uncovered a suspected baby factory in the Badagry area of Lagos State, rescuing 28 persons and arresting two suspects during an intelligence-driven operation.
The NSCDC baby factory rescue in Lagos followed three weeks of surveillance by operatives who tracked activities at the illegal facility located at Okuju, Ilado, Road 1, Zone 1, Olorunda.
Lagos State Commandant Adedotun Keshinro said the raid was carried out between April 15 and 16 during an overnight operation.
He explained that the suspects allegedly used social media platforms, including Facebook, to recruit pregnant women and convince them to sell their babies after delivery for between ₦500,000 and ₦1 million.
A total of 28 persons were rescued, including 17 heavily pregnant women, 10 children (some infants), and one adult male.
“One of the victims reportedly lost her pregnancy due to the poor and unhealthy conditions in the facility,” Keshinro said.
Items recovered from the scene include pumping machines, a generator, fans, gas cylinders, cooking utensils, food items, and mobile phones allegedly used for coordination.
The NSCDC said the suspects and rescued persons have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities condemned the operation, describing it as inhumane and a serious violation of human dignity, especially against women and children.
They added that the case highlights the growing use of online platforms to lure vulnerable persons into trafficking networks.
