NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results, Announces Re-Sit Dates for Students

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results for students completing basic education across Nigeria.

A total of 126,291 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects. The examination began on 20 April 2026 and ended on 30 April 2026.

NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, announced the release in a statement on Thursday. He also confirmed that an award committee has approved dates for the re-sit examination.

The results followed the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee meeting held at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

According to the committee, the re-sit examination will hold on 22 and 23 July 2026. It will cover Mathematics and English Studies.

The re-sit is for students with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English, or both subjects. It provides them a chance to improve their scores without repeating an academic year.

Officials said the BECE remains a key assessment for students moving from basic education to Senior Secondary School. It also guides placement into SSS1.

Education stakeholders noted that the process helps ensure fairness while supporting students who need another opportunity to meet required standards.

NECO added that the examination process was successfully completed with improved coordination across centres nationwide.
