Nigerian-American teenager Daniel Umemezie is celebrating a remarkable achievement after being named the 2026-2027 U.S. National Youth Poet Laureate, becoming the second Nigerian-American to receive the honour. The 18-year-old was selected in April from hundreds of young writers and youth poets across the United States. His achievement has placed his Nigerian heritage, creativity and youthful voice on a national stage.
