Mackenzie Levasseur reflects on the emptiness and quiet of her home during her and her husband’s struggle with infertility. Despite their desire to become parents, they faced years of challenges, including a heartbreaking miscarriage. After seven years of trying for another baby, Levasseur describes the emotional toll it took, especially on her husband, Lovensky, who felt helpless as they both struggled to maintain hope.
Mackenzie Levasseur, the eldest of five siblings, longed for the chaos of a big family and dreamed of being a mom. After struggling with infertility, she and her husband, Lovensky, considered IVF but ultimately decided fostering children was their calling. They were drawn to fostering with the goal of reunifying children with their birth parents when possible, focusing on the well-being of others rather than their own desires.
In April 2023, newly certified foster parents Mackenzie and Lovensky Levasseur were contacted about a case involving triplet newborns. Though other foster families had no room, the Levasseurs couldn’t bear the thought of splitting up the brothers. Without hesitation, they agreed to take all three, naming them Lazarus, Leonardo, and Legend. Lazarus and Leonardo were discharged from the hospital at five days old, and Legend joined them a week later.
Lazarus, Leonardo, and Legend were born healthy at 35 weeks despite their birth mother’s struggles with drugs and lack of prenatal care. Their weights were slightly above or below 5 pounds, which is considered remarkable for triplets. Nurses referred to them as “miracle babies.” Shortly after, Levasseur discovered she was pregnant, an unexpected blessing she and her husband saw as a sign of God’s doing, given their strong faith.
The Levasseurs adopted triplets Lazarus, Leonardo, and Legend when they were 6 months old, and now at 19 months, they are thriving. Their younger brother, Lennox, is almost one and tries hard to keep up with the older triplets. The triplets adore Lennox and even began saying his name early on. The family’s home is lively, with the children chatting in their own language, leaving the parents amused but puzzled by the conversation.
