Anambra Govt Sanctions School for Charging Pupils N5,000 to Contest Head Prefect

The Anambra State Government has imposed a one-month sanction on Blossom Fount School, Awka, following revelations that the school charged pupils N5,000 to contest for head prefect in its primary section.
State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the disciplinary action on Saturday, condemning the fee as a “despicable” monetisation of student leadership.
“It is an act of selling the psyche of the children to the highest bidder from the cradle, and it is not acceptable to this government,” she said.
The commissioner stressed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration remains committed to integrity and fairness in education, vowing that such exploitative practices will not be tolerated.
An ongoing investigation by the Ministry of Education may lead to further sanctions, as officials aim to ensure accountability and prevent similar practices in other schools across the state.
