The Lagos Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of a lower court, sentencing actor Olanrewaju James, also known as Baba Ijesha, to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
On July 14, 2022, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd) from the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sentenced actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, who was the foster daughter of comedian Princess.
The judge found Baba Ijesha guilty on four out of six counts filed by the Lagos State Government. The appellate court upheld the conviction on counts 4 and 5, which involved indecently touching and sexually assaulting a minor.
The court overturned Baba Ijesha’s conviction for indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault of a minor alleged to have occurred between 2013 and 2014. The decision was based on his voluntary confession and his lack of challenge to the testimony of the first prosecution witness, Damilola Adekoya, during the trial.
