Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has applauded the incredible journey of Mary Zira, a young girl once displaced by conflict in northeast Nigeria, who has now emerged as a world-class chess champion.

“The story of Mary Zira is a story of opportunity and hope. From uncertainty, today she’s a world-class chess champion,” Atiku wrote.
