FG Unveils New Curriculum for Primary, Secondary and Technical Schools

The Federal Government has completed a comprehensive review of curricula across basic, senior secondary, and technical education, aimed at reducing overload and enhancing learning outcomes.
Announcing the development on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, said the review was carried out in collaboration with NERDC, UBEC, NSSEC, NBTE, and other key stakeholders.
According to a statement issued by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations, the new framework provides a balanced structure that prioritizes depth, practicality, and relevance in teaching and learning.
- Primary 1–3: 9–10 subjects
- Primary 4–6: 10–12 subjects
- Junior Secondary: 12–14 subjects
- Senior Secondary: 8–9 subjects

Technical Schools: 9–11 subjects
Professor Ahmad noted that the revised curricula are designed to ease content overload, give students more time to learn meaningfully, and ensure education meets present-day realities.
The Ministry commended stakeholders for their commitment and assured that the new curricula will be implemented with strict monitoring for smooth nationwide adoption.
