A proposal informally dubbed the “parenthood license” is sparking debate in France, as policymakers consider whether structured parenting preparation could promote responsible caregiving while raising concerns about personal freedom and government overreach.
The idea, often called permis de parentalité, is not an official policy but has gained attention in political discussions. Supporters say it could help prospective parents better understand child health, safety, nutrition, and development, potentially reducing neglect and improving early childhood outcomes.
