Germany Shifts Student Visa Processing to Lagos, Nigerian Applicants Face New Rules and Centralised System

Student visa applications for Nigerians seeking to study in Germany will now be processed exclusively through the VFS Global centre in Lekki, Lagos, following a new directive from the German Embassy in Nigeria.

Under the updated system, applicants will no longer submit visa requests at the German consulate. Instead, the process begins with online registration, after which applicants are assigned appointments and invited to the VFS centre for document submission and biometric data capture.

Authorities say the change is intended to streamline applications amid growing interest in German higher education among Nigerian students. The Lekki centre will handle key steps including document verification and fingerprint collection on behalf of German missions.

Parents and prospective students are enjoined to follow only official guidelines provided by the embassy and VFS Global, and to ensure all required documents are complete before attending scheduled appointments to avoid delays.

The embassy also cautioned against reliance on unofficial agents or third parties, noting that accurate information is available through its official platforms. The move comes as Germany continues to record increasing numbers of international students, making efficient processing systems a priority.
