Anaiah Singh, a high school freshman, describes her personal struggles with mental health, starting from 6th grade, including experiences of bullying, isolation, and chronic stress, throughout middle school, which deeply exacerbated by imposter syndrome and led to depressive episodes.
The bullying included hurtful messages that exacerbated her struggles with mental health. Despite improvements since then, the memories of this difficult period remain vivid, highlighting the lasting impact of childhood trauma on her well-being.
Feeling isolated and unsupported during this time, she found solace in statistics showing the broader issue of mental health challenges among teenagers, citing a CDC report showing a 40% increase in feelings of persistent sadness or hopelessness among teens from 2009 to 2019.
Now, Anaiah has created HeartTalk, a peer-to-peer support app offering teens worldwide a platform to share supportive voice messages. With over 30 million reached through social media, and 3,000 beta users in weeks.
Anaiah aims to build a community where teens facing mental health challenges can find comfort and connection. Her mission is to ensure no teenager feels alone in their struggles, inspired by her own difficult experiences in 6th grade.
