JAMB Extends 2025 Public University Admission Deadline to November 17

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the deadline for completing the 2025 public university admission process, shifting it from Friday, 31 October 2025, to Monday, 17 November 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement issued Sunday by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser. According to the Board, the decision followed “emergent and compelling circumstances” that disrupted earlier timelines.

Two major developments influenced the extension. First, the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) appealed for more time after several institutions were affected by a court order mandating a temporary halt to processing the 2025/2026 admission list, an order only lifted on 28 October 2025.

Second, the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently approved 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities, released on 29 October 2025, requiring fresh admission scheduling.

To ensure fairness and allow institutions to adjust, JAMB approved the new November deadline and emphasized that this would be final. The Board commended universities for their cooperation and reaffirmed its dedication to a transparent and credible admission process aligned with national education goals and institutional autonomy.

Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), every child has the right to education without discrimination and with equal opportunity for access. This extension supports that right by helping ensure that students are not unjustly denied admission due to procedural delays, institutional disruptions, or late accreditation of programmes.
