Kano Releases 76 Minor Protesters to Parents

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by Chief of Staff Alhaji Shehu Sagagi, on Thursday, handed over 76 children arrested during the August #EndBadGovernance protest to their parents. The children, who had been treated for ailments at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital after their incarceration.

President Bola Tinubu ordered the immediate release of children after public outrage and incidents of them collapsing in court. On November 5, Vice President Kashim Shettima formally handed over the released minors to their respective governors in Abuja. The Kano children were airlifted to Kano for medical treatment.

On November 7, during the handover of children to their parents, the Kano State Governor thanked President Tinubu for securing their release. The government also urged parents to support efforts in ensuring proper education for their children, emphasizing the shared responsibility of federal and state authorities. A government official, Yusuf, called on parents to avoid forming associations to solicit funds, warning that such actions would not be tolerated.

The education commissioner assured that children would be supported to return to school. Some students who had protested will receive support, including a final-year student and a National Certificate in Education holder who will be employed.

Additionally, 50 children will receive uniforms and shoes to continue their education. Health care was provided to those with medical needs, and the children were reunited with their families. Parents expressed gratitude, and Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa donated N50,000 to each of the released minors to support their education.
