Kenya Orders TikTok to Remove Sexual Content Involving Children

Kenyan authorities have ordered TikTok to take down sexual content involving children following a BBC investigative report exposing online exploitation in the country. The report revealed that Kenyan teenagers as young as 15 were engaging in sexual livestreams, with TikTok allegedly profiting from the content.

The Communications Authority of Kenya has launched a formal inquiry and warned of potential sanctions if the platform is found violating the law. Kenyan legislation strictly criminalizes online child exploitation, and a Dutch national was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison for exposing minors to pornographic content.

Authorities have also demanded that TikTok explain how such content bypasses its moderation system. This comes as TikTok faces global scrutiny, including espionage accusations in the U.S. and an EU investigation over election interference. TikTok remains Kenya’s third most popular social media platform after Facebook and WhatsApp, attracting millions of young users.
