The Lagos State Government has launched the first edition of the Eko Arts and Crafts Competition for secondary schools and tertiary institutions. The initiative is designed to promote creativity, preserve cultural heritage, and empower young people across the state.

Announcing the programme at a press conference in Alausa, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Damilola Ayinde-Marshal, described it as a strategic intervention under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, specifically the Entertainment and Tourism pillar.

According to her, the competition will discover, nurture, and showcase the artistic potential of young Lagosians while creating opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and career growth in the creative sector.

“Art is more than just aesthetics. It is storytelling, heritage preservation, and a mirror of society. Through this competition, our young people will have the opportunity to express their thoughts, aspirations, and ideas while also safeguarding the cultural wealth of Lagos State,” Ayinde-Marshal said.

She also announced the opening of the official registration portal, https://ekoschoolsartsandcrafts.com, stressing that participation is open exclusively to students of secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Lagos State.

Representing the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Taoreed Dosunmu, described the competition as a timely initiative to harness the creative potential of Lagos youths.

“This initiative is not just about celebrating talent. It is about building a strong pipeline of creative thinkers, innovators, and entrepreneurs who will shape the future of our State and our nation,” Bajulaiye said.

The ministry assured that platforms like this will be sustained to highlight the ingenuity of Lagosians while strengthening partnerships with stakeholders in the arts and creative industries.

This initiative upholds the Child’s Right to participation, development, and education by providing young people opportunities to express themselves, grow their talents, and secure a brighter future.
