12 Years-Old Nigerian Girl Gets ₦‎19.4 Billion Funding After Creating Air Filter Capable Of Removing 99% Of Viruses In The Air

Eniola Shokunbi, a 12-year-old Nigerian-origin student in fifth grade at Commodore MacDonough STEM Academy in Middletown, Connecticut, is being celebrated for her scientific innovation. For a class assignment focused on finding solutions to a future pandemic like COVID-19, Eniola created a low-cost air purifier. Her impressive work has gained recognition online for its ingenuity and potential impact.

Eniola Shokunbi’s air purifier was tested by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which confirmed its effectiveness in purifying air. Following the success of her invention, the Connecticut State Bond Commission approved $11.5 million in funding for its mass production for schools.

Eniola, who created the $60 device, explained that it filters air through all sides and exits from the top. She emphasized the importance of continued investment in scientific solutions, noting that science is key to preventing illness. Eniola also secured the grant to help install these air filters in Connecticut schools and plans to expand this effort nationwide and globally.
