Nine teenage Nigerian girls allegedly trafficked to Ghana for prostitution have been repatriated back home. The girls who were from Imo State returned to Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 9:55pm on Friday. They were subsequently profiled and handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP).

Dabiri-Erewa confirmed that the rescued girls have been handed over to NAPTIP and their respective states for rehabilitation and counseling. She noted the arrest and court charging of the alleged mastermind of their trafficking in Ghana.

Stressing the urgency of eradicating human trafficking in Nigeria, she called for a collective effort and urged parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts when they are with relatives or friends. Dabiri-Erewa expressed gratitude to several individuals and entities, including the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Eze Igbo Ghana, Chief Callistus, NIDO Team, and the Imo State Governor’s high-powered delegation for their swift actions in rescuing the girls.
