In a moment of pride for Nigeria, Mr. Kayode Adewale, a mathematics teacher at Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School, Ogun State, has been named one of the 50 finalists for the prestigious 2025 Global Teacher Prize.

The announcement, made on Wednesday via the Global Teacher Prize website, celebrates educators who have transformed education, impacting lives and communities worldwide. Organized by the Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO, the award highlights Mr. Adewale’s dedication to tackling educational challenges in his semi-urban community.

Teaching in an area where most students come from low-income farming families, Adewale employs innovative teaching methods to overcome resource limitations. By integrating Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Digital Literacy, he simplifies complex mathematical concepts using local languages like Yoruba and Hausa. His approach ensures lessons are engaging, relatable, and impactful.

Through platforms like the Technology-Assisted Management Solution (TAIMS) and educational apps such as Inquiry Learning Space (ILS) and PhET simulation, Adewale has revolutionized learning by creating collaborative virtual study groups and hands-on problem-solving opportunities. His efforts have significantly improved students’ performance in national and regional exams while equipping them with essential 21st-century digital skills.

Adewale’s dedication extends beyond his classroom. His Transformation1090 Initiative has trained over 30,000 teachers, enabling them to integrate technology into their teaching methods. In addition, he promotes community growth through leadership programs, quiz competitions, and his radio platform, where he discusses entrepreneurial skills and global issues.

The Global Teacher Prize organizers hailed him as an educator whose journey embodies creativity, perseverance, and innovation
