Nigerian Teen, 17, Wins Global English Contest Against 69 Countries

In a powerful testament to Nigerian academic excellence, 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State has been crowned World Best in English Language Skills at the prestigious 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa rose above 20,000 participants from 69 countries, many of them native English-speaking nations, to claim the top prize.
Her outstanding achievement has not only placed her in the global spotlight but also carved a proud moment in Nigeria’s history on the international academic stage.
The TeenEagle competition is known for its rigorous standards in English language proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Nafisa’s victory has sparked widespread celebration, particularly in her home state of Yobe, where her success is being hailed as a testament to her dedication, family support, and visionary public investment in education.
A statement from her family, led by Hassan Salifu, credited Governor Mai Mala Buni for his consistent support for education, saying it laid the foundation for Nafisa’s global accomplishment. Gratitude was also extended to the dedicated educators at NTIC, who helped nurture her talents and prepare her for international excellence.
Nigerians from all corners of the country have lauded Nafisa’s triumph, calling for her to be recognised with State and National Honours, not just as an individual achiever but as a symbol of the vast, untapped academic potential in Nigeria.
Her story is a shining example of what becomes possible when children are given access to quality education, encouragement, and opportunities to showcase their abilities on the world stage.
Above all, Nafisa’s success embodies the child’s right to participation: the right to express, to compete, and to be heard on platforms that shape their future.
