Excessive Speed Raises Child Safety Concerns as Three Children Injured in Ogun Crash

At least 13 people, including three children, sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road traffic accident that occurred at Odogbolu junction along the Ijebu-Ode road in Ogun State.

The crash involved a blue Toyota Venza and an ash-coloured Mercedes Benz, with a total of 18 occupants comprising 10 males, five females, and three children. According to the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the incident did not result in any fatalities, but multiple passengers suffered injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed that the crash was caused by excessive speed on the part of the Mercedes Benz driver, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle before colliding with the Toyota Venza. Eyewitness accounts indicated that the collision was head-on, leading to significant impact and injuries among occupants of both vehicles.

Emergency response teams, including operatives of TRACE, the Amotekun security network, and the Nigerian Police, were deployed to the scene to carry out rescue operations and manage traffic. The injured victims were transported to IDERA Hospital in Odogbolu and Babcock University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Authorities noted that traffic flow, which had been temporarily disrupted during rescue efforts, has since returned to normal. The incident has renewed concerns over speeding and road safety compliance, particularly on busy routes where multiple passengers, including children, are at risk of injury in the event of collisions.
