Ondo Court Remands Two Motorcyclists Over Rape of 17-Year-Old Girl

The Ondo State Magistrate Court in Akure has ordered the remand of two commercial motorcyclists, Tope Ademeso and Igbekele Akinsioye, for raping a 17-year-old girl. The incident reportedly occurred on August 6, 2025, at a residence in the Continental area of Akure.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Amotekun Corps and arraigned on two counts: conspiracy and rape. According to the charge sheet, the defendants conspired to commit rape. They intentionally penetrated the affected child, violating both the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law of 2021.
While the prosecution, led by Mr. O.F. Akeredolu, requested their remand pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, the defense counsel, Godwin Bernard, argued that the incident stemmed from a payment dispute after consensual intercourse. He urged the court to grant bail under lenient conditions.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni adjourned the case to September 1, 2025, for a ruling on the bail application and ordered the defendants to be held in a correctional facility.
This act violates the child’s right against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, as enshrined in Article 34 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Every child deserves to live free from fear, harm, and exploitation.
