Oyo Tragedy: Three Schoolchildren, Motorcyclist Killed in Road Crash

A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, where a commercial truck crushed three Junior Secondary School students and a commercial motorcyclist to death.
The incident happened along the Abanla–Idi-Ayunre road as the students were on their way to school. Witnesses reported that the truck driver, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle, rammed into the motorcycle carrying the students and fled the scene immediately after.
Two students and the Okada rider reportedly died on the spot, while the third student passed away later at a nearby hospital.
The heartbreaking event sparked outrage, with students and residents taking to the streets to protest, block the road, and demand justice. Emotions ran high as other motorcyclists and locals joined in solidarity, expressing concerns over the dangers posed by reckless truck drivers in the area.
Oluyole LG Chairman, Akeem Olatunji, visited the scene and confirmed the incident. He condemned the recklessness of the truck driver and some commercial motorcyclists, pledging that the driver would be found and prosecuted. He also assured that the construction company that owns the truck would be made to compensate the families of the victims.
The reckless driving of the truck operator infringed on their right to life, while the commercial motorcyclist’s decision to carry more than the stipulated number of passengers was a serious safety violation that directly contributed to the tragic outcome.
