A four-month-old baby boy, Mohammed, has made history as the youngest patient to undergo robot-assisted surgery, leaving his parents “amazed” at the groundbreaking procedure’s success.
Mohammed was treated at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for a kidney-related issue using the Versius Surgical System, an advanced robotic technology designed for precision and minimally invasive procedures. His mother, Mariam, initially feared he was too small for surgery, but the robotic-assisted technique made the life-changing operation possible.
The procedure, performed as part of a clinical trial, enabled surgeons to operate on the delicate tube connecting Mohammed’s bladder to his kidneys—an area at risk of severe infection. Thanks to the precision and efficiency of robotic assistance, Mohammed was back home just three days later and is thriving.
