Father Jailed 25 Years for Raping 14-Year-Old Daughter

In a harrowing case that spotlighted the scourge of domestic abuse, an Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced a 45-year-old man, Ndukwe Ogbu, to 25 years in prison for defiling his 14-year-old daughter.
Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe found the defendant guilty on all counts, defilement, sexual assault, and sexual assault by penetration, after extensive testimony from medical and social work professionals corroborated the affected child’s account.
The abuse, which began when the girl was just 14, came to light after she confided in a teacher, leading to a police investigation.
The court noted Ogbu’s lack of remorse and emphasized the credibility of the child’s testimony. He was sentenced to three years for defilement and 25 years each for the other two charges, to run concurrently from December 2019, the date of his initial remand.
This ruling underscores the importance of justice and the growing momentum to hold perpetrators of sexual violence accountable. Every child deserves to grow up safe, free from the trauma of abuse. Protecting children from sexual abuse is a moral and societal duty.
