The horrific incident involving 12-year-old Adamu, whose arms were severed by his uncle over accusations of phone theft, has sparked widespread outcry in Nigeria. Mwalin Abdu, Vice Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Gombe Branch, and Chairperson of its Human Rights Committee, strongly condemned the act and called for urgent action to strengthen child protection measures in Gombe State. Abdu emphasized the immediate implementation of child protection laws to prevent such abuses from recurring, citing a similar case in 2018 involving 13-year-old Zubair Abubakar, whose arms were also amputated over theft allegations by a teacher.
