A $3.9 million art installation is the most lavish NYC private school amenity yet: ‘It’s an arms war’

< 1 min read

Friends Seminary, a private Quaker school in Manhattan with an annual tuition of $63,200, recently revealed a $3.9 million art installation on its roof. The Skyspace, created by artist James Turrell, mixes natural and artificial light to create a mesmerizing effect. Only 85 Skyspaces exist worldwide, and this installation is the only one at a non-university school. The unveiling reflects the trend among NYC private schools to provide extravagant amenities as they compete for students.
