California Moves Closer to Ending Child Marriage as Bill Banning Under-18 Weddings Clears Senate

California has moved a major step closer to banning child marriage after Assembly Bill 1267 unanimously passed the state Senate, bringing the state closer to requiring anyone who marries to be at least 18 years old, without exceptions. The bill now returns to the Assembly for a final vote before it could reach Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk.
