Government’s new Maths and Literacy Curriculum Plans ‘Insane’, Principals Say

< 1 min read

Some educators are expressing concerns over the rapid and pressured overhaul of the English and maths curriculums, calling the process “scary” and “insane.” They argue that the changes are being implemented too hastily and without adequate support for teachers. Despite this, Education Minister Erica Stanford asserts that most schools support the changes, which are intended to address declining literacy and numeracy levels. Regional principals have voiced their discontent, noting that the lack of sufficient support may result in a disjointed application of the new curriculums. They worry that teachers might struggle to adapt and could resort to merely following workbooks.
