Maryland schools are changing the way they teach reading. One district is lagging.

Maryland is implementing a new requirement for all schools to teach reading using evidence-based methods due to declining national reading test scores. However, Sean Bulson, superintendent of Harford County Public Schools, claims their teachers already use the science of reading, supported by brain science. Despite this assertion, the county’s literacy curriculum still promotes discredited reading instruction methods.
