A survey by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni reveals significant gaps in civil literacy among undergraduate students, just ahead of Election Day. Findings show that many students lack fundamental knowledge about American history and government. For instance, only 31% correctly identified James Madison as a Founding Father of the Constitution. Additionally, large percentages were unfamiliar with basic government procedures, such as the term lengths for U.S. Senators and Representatives. These results underscore concerns about the adequacy of civic education, both in grade school and throughout college.
