New research suggests that games hold the key to mastering math and statistics.

< 1 min read

New research suggests that incorporating games into teaching numbers-based subjects like math and economics can significantly improve student achievement and satisfaction. Traditional lecturing, common in 83% of university courses in these subjects, may not be the most effective approach. Assistant Professor Joshua Fullard led a study showing that students who played games during their studies scored 7% higher on exams compared to those taught traditionally. The median student in the game group achieved 69%, while in the traditional group, it was 60%. Additionally, the rate of failure was lower among game-playing students (7% compared to almost 20% in the traditional group), indicating benefits for all students, including increased satisfaction and attendance. Despite time constraints, the research suggests simple, easy-to-implement activities to enhance learning outcomes without sacrificing teaching time.
